Question: There are so many offering hypnosis training on the internet, how do I know which one is best?
Answer: Hypnotism as a profession is not commonly taught in colleges and universities. Individuals who would like to learn more about the use of hypnosis or becoming trained in hypnotherapy should contact a reputable organisation. Be aware that the hypnosis profession is non-licenced. This means that anyone can open a hypnosis school and call themselves a hypnosis instructor even with minimal or no hypnosis training. Many ill-trained individuals are magnificent advertisers and their web pages look like you will be attending a recognised college. The term “caveat emptor” has never been more appropriate than in hypnosis training. Unfortunately it’s up to you to conduct the necessary research so that you can make an informed decision. Thankfully, the internet offers you a wonderful place to get the information you need.
Ask questions of EVERYONE you can! Hypnosis training is expensive and you don’t want to throw your money away. I can’t tell you how many times people have informed us, “I wish I knew about your training before I spent all my money on a class that did not teach me what I needed to do the work successfully.”

Question: A school in my area is holding a weekend course and says I will be able to call myself a “Hypnotherapist” and know everything I need to open a professional practice. Is this true!
Answer: These types of training programmes have been around for a long time. Again, common sense tells us that “If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.” We highly recommend avoiding these type weekend certification programmes claiming to train you to be a hypnotist. It’s a known fact that anyone who has received training through these programmes are not able to make a living in the profession, no matter what extravagant claims are made by those offering such programmes. Think about it, if you discovered that someone who claims to be a dentist, doctor, counsellor, or hypnotherapist received their training through a weekend course, would you want that person to be your professional. In many states across the US there have been legislative moves to stop these titles which are considered to both misleading advertising and unfair trade practices. Don’t let yourself fall into this financial and potential legal trap.

Question: I see all sorts of letters after hypnotists names, what do they mean?
Answer: The issue of credentials is important. Here are some of the titles being used:
CH = Certified Hypnotist
CHT = Certified Hypnotherapist
BCH = Board Certified Hypnotist
CCH = Certified Clinical Hypnotist (or Hypnotherapist)
MH = Master Hypnotist
CMH= Certified Master Hypnotist
The list goes on. Since our profession is not licensed or regulated, technically, anyone could use or invent any title they like as long as the title is not protected by law i.e. Doctor, Psychologist, Psychriatist etc.
Currently many recognised professional hypnosis organisations are trying to get everyone to use the same titles based on the level of training achieved. In general, the following is the way most professional groups issue their certificates:
After completing a basic training the student would use the title “Hypnotist.”
After completing advanced training the title would be generally “Certified Hypnotist or Hypnotherapist.”
After completion of an advanced specialised “Clinical” training the title would be, “Certified Clinical Hypnotist or Hypnotherapist.”
The terms “Master” is irrelevant and has no real meaning.
Board Certification is achieved by those who have displayed a high level of training.
The term “Doctor or PhD” (unless earned in another state licensed vocation) has no legal standing and represents no statement of approved, accredited education. There are a few schools that advertise these controversial “degrees” in hypnotherapy, with programmes that are entirely or almost entirely correspondence courses. These “degrees” are not accredited, and have been highly criticised in the media and by many professional organisations.

Question: Does hypnosis really work?
Answer: The quick answer is a resounding yes! Over the years I have seen astounding changes, discoveries and growth in the profession. For example, today we now know how to induce deep trance in just about everyone in just seconds. Hypnotherapies have been developed in both the medical and psychological fields that are creating fast and dramatic transformations in the doctor’s patients. Most people think hypnosis is just used for smoking or weight control, but the reality is it can be used to heal so many other situations it would take to long to elaborate here. The acceptance by the medical and psychological professions is astounding. We are using it to improve every aspect of human motivation and behaviour. Hypnosis sports improvement is becoming extremely popular with professional athletes. I have personally work with thousands of people to help them achieve their goals. My success is determined by my clients success. If hypnosis didn’t work for them, I would not be working in the profession!

Question: What’s good about your training centre?
Answer: Martin Kiely is the first NGH Board Certified Hypnotist and Certified Instructor to offer this curriculum in Ireland. We have a highly concentrated and focused programme that saves you both time and money. The education you receive is of the highest standard. Our training programme is hands-on from the first day. We have a method that we teach and which you learn and practice each time we meet. You also learn many other aspects about the profession of hypnotism. Should you choose to set up private practice you will graduate with the ability to work with almost every person who comes to see you.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS COURSE IS NOT TAUGHT BY CORRESPONDENCE
Hypnotism training solely or primarily through correspondence is by itself insufficient. Essential aspects of hypnotherapy training leading to an effective, successful practice include: experiencing numerous group and individual hypnosis processes and giving and receiving feedback about your subjective experiences. Live demonstrations and commentary followed by questions and answers; and supervised practice sessions with feedback from client and supervising instructor. Correspondence courses are very limited in their potential for training persons to become hypnotists.

Question: What is the difference between the intensive and extended programmes?
Answer: The intensive programme takes place on six consecutive days in one month and six consecutive days in the next month. The regular programme is held on weekends (12 x 8 hour classes). Many people who travel long distances opt for the intensive, as this gives them the opportunity to complete the course with a minimum of return visits.
One of the advantages of a weekend programme is that there is time during the week to practice between classes. Many people prefer the weekend training because it gives them time to absorb the material and practice what was taught in class.
